Gold Centrifugal Concentrator

The STLB Gold Centrifugal Concentrator turns a low-grade screened stream into a small, high-grade concentrate in a single pass. It is the machine operators add at the end of a placer line, behind a mill, or on old tailings when gravity recovery keeps leaking fine gold — because a sluice loses everything below its effective size range. Five models cover 0.6 to 80 t/h with feed sizes to 5 mm; belt-driven bowl, fluidised-bed capture, 0.75-22 kW motor, and concentrate flushed out on a 1-6 hour cycle. No chemicals and no mercury — purely gravity, which is why it has become the standard replacement for amalgamation.

The Gold Centrifugal Concentrator is a single-unit gravity machine that spins a fluidised bed fast enough to hold the fine and flour gold a sluice loses. STLB models cover 0.6-80 t/h with feed sizes to 5 mm, for placer lines, hard-rock gravity circuits and tailings re-treatment. Concentrate is flushed out every 1-6 hours depending on the ore, and no chemicals are used.

What the Gold Centrifugal Concentrator Does

A gold centrifugal concentrator is a finishing machine, not a whole plant. It takes a screened stream - placer concentrate, mill discharge or old tailings - and uses a high-intensity centrifugal field to amplify the density difference between gold and gangue, so free gold that would drift out of a sluice is retained and upgraded instead. Position it after your washing or grinding stage and before the final clean-up: it makes a small, rich concentrate that a shaking table or smelting furnace can finish. Feed sizes to 5 mm, capacities from 0.6 t/h to 80 t/h, and no reagents anywhere in the process.

How the Rotating Bowl Holds Fine Gold

Slurry enters through the vertical pipe at the top of the machine and drops into a rotating bowl. As the bowl spins, the slurry is pressed outward into a fluidised layer: the fluidisation water injected through the bowl wall lifts light particles so they can be carried away, while gold and other heavy minerals sink and lock into the retention grooves. The result is a rougher that behaves like a very fast, very short sluice - one that keeps working on particles a sluice loses at a lower size limit. Because the capture depends on two settings only, water pressure and feed size, the machine is tuned rather than constantly adjusted, and concentrate is flushed out on a fixed cycle (1-3 hours for vein gold, 2-6 hours for placer gold) instead of being panned continuously. Nothing in the circuit uses mercury or cyanide, which is why this machine is routinely specified to replace amalgamation in mercury-free plants.

Where It Sits in a Gold Line

The concentrator earns its place in three positions. In placer plants it works as the scavenger behind the sluice, recovering the fine gold that the mat leaves in the tailings - the classic high-loss point of an alluvial operation. In hard-rock circuits it concentrates free gold from mill discharge after classification, ahead of gravity clean-up. In re-treatment projects it is used on old tailings where the coarse gold is already gone and only the fine fraction is worth chasing. One machine can also run as a portable test unit: because it is a single skid-mounted box, it can be taken to a new deposit and used to assess whether the fine gold is worth building a line around.

STLB Models: Three Numbers Choose the Machine

Selection is arithmetic, not opinion. First, feed capacity (t/h) - the table below runs 0.6 t/h on the STLB20 up to 80 t/h on the STLB100. Second, feed size: the two small models accept 0-3 mm, the three larger ones 0-5 mm, so oversize must be screened off upstream. Third, water: fluidisation water ranges from 2-3 m³/h on the smallest unit to 55-80 m³/h on the largest, with slurry water on top of that - size the pump and settling pond for both. Power follows the size of the bowl, from 0.75 kW to 22 kW, and shipping weights run 145 kg to 2,000 kg. Give us the tonnage and the top feed size, and the choice narrows to one model.

Water, Power and Clean-up: What to Prepare on Site

The machine needs a small, flat pad and very little else. Fluidisation water must be clean - screen it or settle it, because grit blocks the injection holes and the fluidised layer will not form. Feed density is flexible (0-50% solids), which means the concentrator can follow whatever the upstream trommel or mill produces without a thickener between them. The bowl is driven by a belt from a side-mounted motor, so a belt and the bowl wear surfaces are the parts to watch; both are consumables, not repairs. Cleaning up is a shut-off-and-flush routine: the concentrate that has collected in the bowl is washed out through the valve manifold, weighed, and sent to the table or furnace. Daily supervision, in practice, means checking feed, water pressure and the clean-up timer - the machine has no operator station to man.

Gold Centrifugal Concentrator FAQ

Q: 1. What is a gold centrifugal concentrator used for?

A: Recovering free gold that gravity circuits normally lose: the fine and flour fraction in placer tailings, the liberated gold in mill discharge, and the values left in old tailings. The gold centrifugal concentrator produces a small, high-grade concentrate - typically 2-90 kg per clean-up depending on model - that goes straight to a shaking table or smelting furnace.

Q: 2. How is it different from a sluice box or shaking table?

A: A sluice is cheap and handles volume but loses fines below its effective size range; a shaking table gives a very clean separation but at low throughput. The concentrator sits between them: high unit capacity, a much lower recovery size limit than a sluice, and a concentrate that still needs finishing. In most lines all three appear - sluice as rougher, concentrator as scavenger, table as cleaner.

Q: 3. What recovery can the STLB bowl actually achieve?

A: Published test figures for the STLB range are 98% or better on placer gold, and around 97% on hard-rock gold when the feed is finer than 0.04 mm. Those are machine tests, not a guarantee for your ground: recovery depends on how free the gold is and how the feed is sized, so send a sample description with your enquiry and we will quote an expected range instead of a slogan.

Q: 4. What feed size and density does it accept?

A: Feed size depends on the model: 0-3 mm for STLB20 and STLB30, 0-5 mm for STLB60, STLB80 and STLB100 - anything larger has to be screened off first. Feed density can run anywhere from 0 to 50% solids, and the fluidisation water pressure is the fine adjustment you will actually use.

Q: 5. How much water and power does it need?

A: Fluidisation water is 2-3 m³/h on the STLB20 and rises to 55-80 m³/h on the STLB100; slurry water adds 1.5-4 m³/h to 70-120 m³/h on top. Motor rating runs 0.75-22 kW across the range. The exact figures for each model are in the table above.

Q: 6. How often must I clean out the concentrate?

A: Between 1 and 3 hours for vein (hard-rock) gold and 2-6 hours for placer gold - the cycle is set by ore grade, not by the machine. Clean-up itself is a flush through the valve manifold on the side of the bowl, and the concentrate is weighed before it goes to the finishing stage.

Q: 7. Are chemicals involved in the recovery process?

A: No. Recovery is purely gravitational, which is why this concentrator is commonly specified to replace amalgamation in mercury-free plants and to upgrade gravity circuits that were previously losing their fines.

Q: 8. What maintenance does it need, and are parts available?

A: The belt drive and the bowl wear surfaces are the consumables. Wear parts are supplied for the life of the machine, and the fluidisation holes need clean water to stay open - that is the single most important maintenance habit on this machine.

Q: 9. How small an order can you take, and how quickly do you ship?

A: One set is the minimum order. A single unit ships in about 15 days; two to three units take around 30 days, and larger orders are scheduled once the build is confirmed.

Q: 10. What does a unit cost, and what is included in the price?

A: Price is set by the model and its configuration - the STLB range spans more than an order of magnitude in capacity, so a single list price would be meaningless. Every unit ships with a machinery test report and an outgoing-inspection video, and is covered by a 1-year warranty with lifelong spare-parts supply.
