Product Components and Working Principle

BAG OPENER

The bag opener is the first machine of the Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) mechanical sorting line. MSW Sorting Plant consists of a feeding hopper, a feeding bunker equipped with a moving floor, a ripping drum, clamping arms and the suitable hydraulic unit.

FEEDING HOPPER

The feeding hopper is made of rugged sectional steel. The hopper walls shall be made of 4 mm reinforced sheet steel. It is firmly connected to the bag opener which constitute into one unit. The hopper will be equipped with a maintenance door at the front area of the hopper longitudinal side, across from the feeding side. The door can only be opened inwards for operational safety. The door will also be equipped with a safety switch to ensure that the machine stops immediately when the door is

opened. A mechanical safety device prevents the door from accidentally falling shut. And in order to reach the door, a stepladder is provided.

RIPPING DRUM

The ripping drum consists of a two-part drum and ring segments around the drum circumference. All rotating elements shall be furnished with heavy-duty, permanently lubricated, sealed roller bearings. It shall be driven by two hydraulic motors. The relative movement of the ring segments is what tears open the bags. The drum shall be equipped with special changing elements.

The clamping force which exists in the clearance between ripping drum and clamping arms shall be varying according to the quantity, nature of the bag content (flat, bulky, compact, etc.) and the material feed rate. This ensures the highest degree of bag opening and emptying efficiency. The pressure of the clamping arms against the ripping drum shall be achieved by hydraulic cylinders. Ripping triangles are welded to the tip of the clamping arms. As an option, the clamping arms

can be equipped with bolted (non-welded) ripping triangles which are easier to replace.

MOVING FLOOR

The moving floor Conveyor is in sturdy sectional steel construction. It shall be made of numerous conveyor slats with fitted guard plates. The conveyor slats consist of steel profiles mounted and guided on wear resistant synthetic material. In groups of three the conveyor slats are hydraulically moved. This back-and-forth movement generates the conveying function. Transporting speed will be max, 1,5 m/min, infinitely adjustable.

PRESELECTION CABIN

The preselection cabin is the second point of MSW Sorting Plant, after the material passes through the bag opener. It consists of a sorting conveyor belt of net sorting width 1,2m, four (4) sorting chutes in each side of the belt (eight (8) chutes in total), which places in a closed cabin of dimensions approximately 15m (length) x 5m (width). The cabin must be of metallic construction with suitable PU insulated panels (of 50mm thickness) for its top cover and side cover. Furthermore, the cabin shall be elevated at a height of +4,5m (floor height) including all necessary steel support structures. The cabin shall be equipped with all the necessary openings, doors, stairs, electrical installation, alarm and emergency stop buttons, fire fighting devices, as well as suitable air conditioning.

TROMMEL SCREEN

After the preselection cabin, the material is transferred to the trommel screen. Under the rotation of the screen and its inclined position the largest materials pass through the whole length of the screen while the smallest fractions pass through the screen holes. Suitable inspection and cleaning doors shall be on the shell of the trommel, as well as suitable chutes for dedusting. The rotating drum shall be placed on four rotating wheels (two driving and two non – driving), directly placed on the trommel steel support structure. Another opposing wheel prevents the trommel from possible longitudinal displacements caused due to its rotational move and inherent inclination. The rotation of the trommel is given by two gear motors directly coupled to the driving wheels. The rotation of the gear motor shall be controlled via

inverter, in the range of 8-21 rpm. The machine shall be equipped with a local electrical panel, including the suitable automation devices for controlling its operation. Except the support structures, there must be also inspection and maintenance corridors (catwalks) in both sides of the trommel shell.

BALLISTIC SHIFTERS

The middle fraction of MSW Sorting Plant (80mm – 300mm) coming from the trommel screen will be processed in two identical ballistic shifters. During the ballistic shifter operation, the material is separated into a rolling, a flat and a sieve fraction. The bearing elements of the ballistic shifters crankshaft shall be exchangeable without disassembly of the crankshaft. There must be also a Shock-Absorber-System between the paddle connection and the eccentric bearing minimizing the impact load onto the crankshaft unit. As a standard, relubrication of the bearings is done with lubrication nipples, directly at the bearing position. The machine shall be driven by an electric gear motor. The corresponding frequency converter shall also be supplied (not assembled). The transfer of the torque onto the crankshaft at the output side is done by the paddles. The ballistic separator shall also be equipped with mechanical inclination adjustment. The sieve grids shall be square by default; other perforation patterns are available as well. The sieve grids shall be easily exchangeable.

OPTICAL SEPARATORS

There will be six optical separation. Each NIR consists of its pc, its scanner, the NIR lamps set, the separation chamber and the compressed air valves (nozzles) set, through which the sorting is accomplished. The four out of the six optical separators shall be equipped with one single set of sorting valve block, while the rest two shall be equipped with double valve blocks, making possible the selection of two streams of material inside its separation chamber. Every optical separator shal be equipped with the suitable required speed conveyor of net width 2.000mm, suitable length, and conveying speed up to 2,5m/min. Installed power of each optical separator/conveyor: 15kW.

CRUSHER

A crusher will be used in order to receive the trommel screen oversized material (>300mm) and reduce its size to less than initial (<300mm). After the crusher, output material (<300m) will be returned to the start of the line (overbelt magnet). The crusher shall be of the following characteristics:

Magnetic separator

The material (MSW), after the preselection cabin, pases through an overbelt magnet

through which the ferrous fraction of MSW is being extracted. The magnetic

separator is of the following characteristics:

INDUCTIVE SEPARATOR (eddy current separator)

For the extraction of the non ferrous metals out of the MSW stream of materials, an inductive separator of the following characteristics shall be provided.

GREEN WASTE SHREDDER (chipper)

A Chipper will be used for shredding of the preselected green waste (tree branches, woods etc). The chipped will be equipped with two (2) rotors with cutting knifes. The process of cutting will ensure the required dimension of the final product (<20mm). Furthermore the machine shall be equipped with automatic reverse mode so as for easy release of possible blocked material inside. The machine shall be also capable of cutting material of diameter >150mm.

The chipper shall be of the following characteristics:
